経済学者の質が急速に低下している？(もしくは最初から高くなかった？)Part3

VOX.EU第三弾、今回紹介(批判)するのもこれまでにまた輪をかけて最悪だ。今回の筆者たちはピケティ、サエズ、ザックマンのいつものフランス人たちだ。格差が拡大した教の最大の教祖の1人、kop-czukに手酷い裏切りを受けて暴走し始めたのではないかと思えるぐらい穴だらけの内容となっている(kop-czukの最新の論文は実はアメリカと同じぐらい所得上位1％の所得シェアが上昇していたノルウェーの格差拡大がやっぱり見掛け上だけだったことをこれでもかというぐらい説得的に示している。kop-czukが再三指摘しているようにそれとまったく同じ議論がアメリカにも当てはまる)。

One major problem is the disconnect between macroeconomics and the study of economic inequality. 

所得格差の研究に(税の研究と同じように)マクロ経済学とミクロ経済学とで方法論と結果に対立があるような書き方をしているがそのようなものは存在しない。

Macroeconomics relies on national accounts data to study the growth of national income, while the study of inequality relies on individual or household income, survey, and tax data.

存在しないものとどうして対立を煽ろうとしているのか意味が分からない。

Ideally all three sets of data should be consistent, but they are not. The total flow of income reported by households in survey or tax data adds up to barely 60% of the national income recorded in the national accounts, with this gap increasing over the past several decades.

それを指摘された時に無視して逃げ出したのは自分たちではないのか？

Yet we do not have a clear measure of how the distribution of pre-tax income differs from the distribution of income after taxes are levied and after government spending is taken into account. This makes it hard to assess the extent to which governments make income growth more equal.

議会予算局(CBO)を含めて多くの人々がとっくの昔にそれを行っている。

First, our data show that the bottom half of the income distribution in the US has been completely shut off from economic growth since the 1970s. From 1980 to 2014, average national income per adult grew by 61% in the US, yet the average pre-tax income of the bottom 50% of individual income earners stagnated at about $16,000 per adult after adjusting for inflation.

恒例の、中間層の所得はまったく増加していない的なグラフだが今回はその馬鹿さ度合いがいつもの数十倍はすごい。驚くことに「アメリカ人の半数の所得が1962年からまったく増加していない」と真顔で主張している。

(最初の一枚はともかくとしても)上からフロリダ州、ミシシッピ州、アラバマ州だからむしろアメリカで最も貧しい州といってもいいはずだ。1962年から所得が増加していないということはアメリカ人の半数以上が未だに白黒の写真や1960年代の車を使っていて、エアコン無し、カラーテレビ無し、パソコン無し、インターネット無しの生活を送っているということ(若干異なるがそれとほぼ同義)になる。自分たちがどれだけ馬鹿げたことを言っているのか経済学を少しでも理解していれば分かりそうなものだが、いくら説明されても分からないようだ。
